This last weekend we had a great time traveling to California where we visited Brian's family. It was so much fun. We loved it.
Brian flew down early Friday morning and then drove to Palm Desert to be with his grandparents. While he was there they ate at a family favorite restaurant, Las Casuelas. Later that night I flew in from Salt Lake. My luggage took a different flight than I did so while we waited for the luggage to arrive, we drove around in search of a Del Taco (it was like 11:00 at night, but we were hungry!!). We drove all over Ontario and saw most of the industrial parks there, but no Del Taco. Despite our inability to find the restaurant, spirits were high as the family sang along to the musical Big River. Brian played Huck in the show and most of the family was in it with him when he was younger so it was fun to listen to this! Finally, the baggage arrived and we were off to Temecula (stopping of course at the first Del Taco we could find along the way). Brian and I slept on the couch in the bonus room--one person on either side of the sectional. It was a pretty calm night until Otis, the family dog, started barking from the garage--directly below the bonus room. Poor Brian, who has been getting sick lately, couldn't sleep and found himself very frustrated with Otis. After a failed attempt to stop the barking by putting Otis outside, he was quieted by the ever-loving Lee Hazen.
The next morning was a lot of fun as Cheri made waffles with strawberries and whipped cream for us all. We got ready and went back out to the desert. The trip there was a lot of fun. As soon as we got there Roy insisted on taking us all out to eat at Del Taco (have I mentioned that the family LOVES Del Taco? The Wrankles even have an old table from Del Taco before it was remodeled. This is the very table that Brian and his grandpa, Roy, ate at everytime they were there.). Next we just hung out and talked with one another. It was very relaxing and so fun. We looked at Roy's old Navy pictures and especially enjoyed the pictures of him as a body builder! Some of Brian's other cousins came up as well. We got pizza and the activity finally concluded around 10:15 (with the grand finale being everyone--yes everyone--trying to put their foot behind their head. It was quite an adventure). We drove...well, Lee drove while the rest of us slept...back to Temecula and quickly went to bed!
Sunday was super relaxing. Once again we had waffles with strawberries and cream. We jumped on the trampoline and then left for the airport. Brian and I landed in Salt Lake at 6:30. We had dinner at Gran's (which was wonderful as usual), followed by a little conversation with Gran, Bud, Amy, and Matt, and then drove back to P-town! It didn't take long for us to fall asleep!
We had a wonderful time with all of our family and we're looking forward to seeing them all again soon.
